I-470 Failure at Three Trails Crossing Interchange (Grandview Triangle)

MoDot engineers believe the problem occurred due to a subsurface soil failure from groundwater build up beneath the retaining wall. 3D data of the ramp collected using laser scanning was used to produce a digital terrain model. The model helped to calculate earthwork volumes and supplement design of the needed repairs. MoDOT's engineers and HNTB Corp. will utilize the data which is much more detailed than what could have been obtained with conventional surveying. Repairs should be completed by early fall.
